5 Inexpensive Gifts for the Lake Lover in your Life

Jan. 13 2022 Miscellaneous By Taylor's South Shore Marina

If you’ve ever spent time with a boater or lake lover, you most likely already know how much they value their time on the water. No matter the type of boat, there’s just something about being in rhythm with the waves, experiencing breathtaking sunrises and sunsets and making new memories each and every time you push off the dock for a cruise.

But what makes a day on the water even better? Fun, practical and easily-stowable accessories that contribute to the fun and enhance the boating experience. We’re not talking about your required safety equipment, but rather, the ‘extras’. Our customers shared a list of the goods they wouldn’t leave the dock without and we’ve compiled them here, just for you. If you’re looking for the perfect gift to help that boater in your life survive the countdown until boating season is upon us again, check out these recommendations:

Pool Saddles

These pool saddles from TRC Recreation are the perfect way to float your cares away. They’re affordable, don’t take up much storage space and the best part: they dry quickly, too! Larger rafts, made of the same material, are also available from this same manufacturer and we’re big, big fans of anything that does not have to be inflated (or deflated). While the rafts are slightly more expensive than the saddles, our boating friends have found them to be a good investment, as they tend to hold up for many seasons. Have a furry friend on deck? The rafts are also sturdy enough for Fido to join in on the floating fun!

Waterproof Bluetooth Speaker

Your boat might have a rocking stereo system and may even boast some powerful speakers on the wake tower (if you have one), but most boaters will eventually come to realize there’s still a need for portability when it comes to playing your most beloved tunes on the water. This Altec Lansing bluetooth speaker is waterproof and – BONUS – it floats! Walmart has most recently had these on sale for Black Friday for as little as $20, but even at the regular price of around $40, you can’t beat the investment. And of course, for those times when you choose to vacation somewhere other than the lake, this is the perfect companion to pack.

Personalized Plates

Okay, so it’s not something to take on the boat with you, but it’s a fun way to show off your love for the water when you’re not on it. Personalized license plates can be designed with custom messages to fit your family or specific hobby. Get creative – showcase the name of your favorite lake, type of boat you have, what you like to do on your boat or – better yet, display the name of your boat. A recent customer got a personalized plate gifted to her for Mother’s Day a few years back and we’re pretty sure it makes her non-lake days more bearable. Camera Float Strap

Of course, a day on the water has to be documented (unless you follow the “what happens at the lake, stays at the lake” mantra). Whether you’re using a newer model waterproof phone or a camera specifically for use in the water, a must-have is this inexpensive, waterproof float strap that keeps your gear off the bottom of the lake (unlike your sunglasses, because we know you’ve lost a pair – or ten).

Beverage Holders

The best companion on a hot day is a cold beverage. Stay refreshed and enjoy your favorite drink even more with a Brumate beverage holder. We’re big fans of their fun designs and they come in a variety of sizes that accommodate traditional 12 oz cans and slim cans. Options for wine and mixed drinks are also available, along with flasks and coolers. There’s something for everyone on your list. And, lids can be purchased as an add-on, so you can convert your can-holder into an insulated cup, seamlessly.

We know there are more must-haves we should be adding to our ‘day-on-the-water’ checklist. Drop us a line and tell us: what are your favorite boating accessories?
